Or, Bobs sings Rudyard Kipling,

The Winners

What the moral? Who rides may read.
When the night is thick and the tracks are blind
A friend at a pinch is a friend, indeed,
But a fool to wait for the laggard behind.
Down to Gehenna or up to the Throne,
He travels the fastest who travels alone.

White hands cling to the tightened rein,
Slipping the spur from the booted heel,
Tenderest voices cry " Turn again!"
Red lips tarnish the scabbarded steel,
High hopes faint on a warm hearth-stone--
He travels the fastest who travels alone.

One may fall but he falls by himself--
Falls by himself with himself to blame.
One may attain and to him is pelf--
Loot of the city in Gold or Fame.
Plunder of earth shall be all his own
Who travels the fastest and travels alone.

Wherefore the more ye be helpen-.en and stayed,
Stayed by a friend in the hour of toil,
Sing the heretical song I have made--
His be the labour and yours be the spoil.
Win by his aid and the aid disown--
He travels the fastest who travels alone!

Doesn't it seem he's got a version of Dylan's never-ending-tour thing going on? When is he not out with one of his configurations? I do get that he's a musician and he's chasing his muse or however he might term it, but I do wonder at this point if he's got that much left to say?

Playing Peggy-O and any number of other tunes in all the different lineups, I mean, is there a point? It's not like Jerry helming the Dead then having excursions here and there to do OAITW, or Merle stuff, JGB.

Point is, is this about his personal musical explorations or maybe that he doesn't have much else going on? Is it more about Bob needing something to do, milking the Grateful Dead brand? Lotta questions, huh?
Just wondering. I hope at least they're fair questions.

The questions are fair but the only answer that counts is Bobs and what he wants to do. He seems to playing more lately since Deadco started but I didn't t pay attention really.

To me, I wish he was playing these tours with Deadco.
He has done 2 of the Wolf tours since the last Deadco tour and I think that the more Deadco plays together the better they would be.

The song The Winners has a MAMU or Jack Straw or Pancho and Lefty storyline to me.
He is traveling alone because he killed his friend. Just a thought.

As the boys in the bar room sang
He loves loneliness loves it alone.

Fair questions for sure. And here's Carol Channing at 74:

During the final performance in 1995–her last on Broadway–Channing said, “Performing is the only excuse for my existence. What can be better than this?”

Most do until they can't. Witness all the final tours lately.

Edit: and so do bands. Queen has a faux Freddy. Eagles have a faux Frey. The Who are down to two.

Are you recommending we start taking applications for "faux formuites" to step in when one of us can no longer execute our duties of...whatever it is we do here...due to physical/mental deterioration and/or spousal interference?

Why not? Even our Boys did the same. We've been through several Faux Jerrys. I'm in.

You said fauxTell and I was going to make and AirBnB comment that wasn't very funny. That got me thinking about a list of things, like AirBnB, that did not exist when we all joined the forum. I'll start:

1. John Mayer's pubes.

Don't shy away from bad puns. That was excellent and made my laugh. Well played.

As for the pubes; repugnant, but spot on.

3. Quality Dead shows (to each his own)

I am late to the party, 2012 maybe I don't know.
When did it start?
I assume after 95 so that would be...

Any Dead show

right?

"When did it start?"

One question, many answers; all of them right (I'm looking at you WT...and not Faux Tell). Some say it started when Pig left, some say it was when they came back from their mid-70's hiatus, some point to the departure of Keith and Donna while I'd have to say the largest group points to the hiring of Brent "Michael McDonald aint got nothing on me" Mydland. This is one of those subjective things that you decide on your own (unless you want to join the small group of lemmings hurling themselves off the "cliff" in pursuit of WT). For me, I see the number of quality shows starting to really fall off in the early 80's, but that's not to say they weren't able to produce the outstanding gem when they were into it (or Jerry decided to shower and put down the extra Twinkie). The number of these gems certainly declined quickly as Jerry started chasing the dragon (and the Hostess delivery truck) in earnest. To me there's no wrong answer to this question.

I misunderstood. I thought it was when did the forum start and I meant it started after 95 so no Dead shows.
As for when did the quality shows stop that is too big for my plate to answer

Nope. 'twas I who misunderstood. Not the first time, nor the last. You have it right.

I'm still trying to ID the very first post here. Others more skilled in sorting the threads may have better luck. Late 90's I'd guess.

EDIT:
Maybe a bit later then that.
Regarding the music collection: "Created in 2004 this collection consists of both audience and soundboard recordings. It is not uncommon to find multiple versions of the same show. For more information please see the FAQ. The Grateful Dead collection is not currently open to public uploads." I'm assuming our Forum started about the same time.

Also, found this thread which is somewhat appropriate:

I was going to do my "best" SDH imitation and suggest that you don't pull punches because you are busy pulling something...no, sorry, I just can't do it. So I waited. And you stepped in.

You’re a very gentle, kynd, and patient man. I’m glad you waited for me to step in it. You know that’s my favorite

And let’s think about how the word ‘best’ and ‘SDH’ should never be right next to each other

Well I see you were funny then too !

I came after this split. I just thought they wanted to cull the deadheads from the herd so they built a new pen to hold them in so they wouldn't bother and spill into the rest anymore. Good thing they did because it blew up in 05 when they yanked the boards. Maybe that is why they built the "pen."

The posts seem not to change much over time but that is expected too. All good.
